The Olota in council
which comprises of High-Chief B.O Osunlabu, the Ekerin of Ota, High-Chief
Isiaka Idowu, Balogun of Ota, High-Chief Chief Clement Akinyemi, Ajana of
Ijana, Ota, High-Chief Wadudu Deinde, Akogun of Oruba of Ota, Chief Sikiru
Durojaye, Olori Otun, Ota, Chief Wasiu Ogundare, Asiwaju of Otun, Ota and Chief
Shehu Oladunjoye, Jagunmolu of Owu on 3rd of November, 2016 paid a
courtesy visit to former president Olusegun Obasanjo in a bid to appreciate him
for paying a condolence visit to the Olota in council over the demise of Olota
of Ota, late Oba Moshood Adetoro Alani Oyede, Arolagbade III
The visit was also
to ask for his position on some of the allegations levelled against him by
those who uses his name to perpetrate illegal acts in Awori land.
In response to
some of the questions raised by the entourage, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said he
legitimately purchased all the landed properties he has in Ota and his has
verifiable evidences to justify his claim.
Public Relations
Officer of the regency council, High-chief Wadudu Deinde, the Akogun of Oruba
of Ota, speaking with Voice of Awori, he said, ‘Obasanjo bought the land which
he used for Obasanjo Farms Nigeria Limited from the Oke-Idota family of Otun,
Ota’. He also stressed that the past head of the family, High-Chief Thomas
Bamisebi and Chief Ali Eniatimo who is the secretary of the family were joint
signatories to the deed of contract for the sale of the land.
High-Chief Wadudu
Deinde further explained that by implication, selling the land to Chief
Olusegun Obasanjo has boosted the economic and social sectors of the town. In
furtherance to the above gesture by Chief Obasanjo, he made the Asiwaju of
Awori land, Senator Ayo Otegbola the Chairman, Federal Housing Authority when
he was the president.
On question on
whom among Ota indigenes has benefitted from the sale of the land, he said,
‘countless Ota indigenes has been offered employment by Obasanjo Farms Nigeria
Limited, adding that Mr. Momoh Isreal, also known as Baba Ota, until his death
was paid for services not rendered. Also, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is also
quoted as saying, he has been able to put the name of Ota in the world map by
influencing Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and late Nelson Mandela among other
notable world leaders to Ota because of the love he has for the town. He also
said that he advised Bishop Oyedepo to pay all the families he bought his land
from because they are the legitimate owners of the land. Also, he said he would
not have made Ota a case study while doing his PhD research if he hated the
town and that he even consulted the late Olota of Ota during his research.
On the succession of
the late Olota of Ota, he advised the regency council to give all candidates a
level playing ground and wished them a smooth transition.
Chief Olusegun
Obasanjo said he is not behind any group of person molesting, intimidating,
harassing any Awori man on their land.
On his parting shot,
High-Chief Deinde said the Olota in council is sounding a note of warning to
all erring factions to desist from all the acts as disclaimed by Chief Olusegun
Obasanjo or their names would be made known to the public
